HARRISBURG, Pa. – Recent WVU football commit Kevin Brown appeared on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, where he verbally committed to the Mountaineers.
That was not all Brown revealed during his conversation with McAfee. With a couch burning in the background, the four-star offensive lineman also talked about his relationship – or lack thereof – with the former West Virginia coaching staff.
Brown’s dad, Tim, played for Rich Rodriguez and the Mountaineers in the early 2000s. However, when asked by McAfee what it was like growing up a WVU fan or around the program, the younger Brown said, “it was not the same West Virginia culture we know today.” The 6–foot-5 Harrisburg, Pennsylvania native was a kid during the Dana Holgorsen era in Morgantown. He told McAfee, “we went to a practice one day and they kicked us out. Not a good feeling.”
Apparently, the recruit did not come away feeling much better about the West Virginia program under Neal Brown. “Then, my sophomore year I went on a visit to West Virginia and the o-line coach didn’t even watch my film. Then, I took my OV (official visit) this summer, and holy cow, totally changed. I went to Georgia, Alabama, Auburn; and West Virginia’s coaches, facilities, everything was just elite,” said (Kevin) Brown. The young man did not mention anyone by name, but the WVU offensive line coach during his sophomore year was Matt Moore.
It seems like the culture Rich Rodriguez is building in Morgantown is exactly what this top 50 recruit was looking for when making his college decision.
