The West Virginia women’s basketball team will open the 2025-26 women’s basketball season with what will likely turn into one of the most anticipated games in program history.

Per a release, the Mountaineers will compete in the Greenbrier Tip-Off against Duke on November 14th. The Blue Devils are coming off their first Elite Eight run since 2012-13, finishing seventh in the AP Top 25, their highest placement since the 2012-13 Elite Eight.

The Mountaineers are entering year three under Mark Kellogg, who has led the team to back-to-back 25-8 seasons, making the second round of the NCAA Tournament in both campaigns.

But one face will be missing this time around after two-time Big 12 DPOY JJ Quinerly was drafted into the WNBA this season.

Kellogg was able to bring in a great transfer portal class including Carter McCray, the 6’1” forward played for the Wisconsin last season, averaging nearly 11 points and seven rebounds per game for the Badgers. Alongside McCray, Kellogg was able to land highly touted forward Kierra Wheeler from Norfolk State, the 6’1 graduate transfer averaged over 15 points per game last season alongside nine rebounds and over two blocks per game, ranking ninth in the nation in total blocks.

The Mountaineers will also compete in the Pink Flamingo Championship just two weeks after this game in an eight-team tournament that also includes Alabama, Ohio State, South Florida, and Minnesota.
