by: Brandon Walker

On Tuesday, WVU basketball landed another commitment from the transfer portal with North Texas guard Jasper Floyd.

The 6-foot-3 Tampa, Florida, native averaged 9.0 points, 3.9 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game in his lone season with the Mean Green under now-WVU head coach, Ross Hodge.

Before transferring to North Texas, Floyd started 35 games at Fairfield, where he averaged 9.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game.

He has also played at Hillsborough Community College (FL), where he started 26 games and averaged 14.7 points, seven rebounds, and five rebounds per game after starting his career at Northwest Florida State, where he averaged 2.2 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.

Floyd has one year remaining due to the season he spent in junior college no longer counting against his eligibility.

Floyd is an athletic guard who can get downhill driving to the basket and plays through contact. He is also an adept mid-range shooter. He is also a plus perimeter defender, which is what Coach Hodge wants on his team. The familiarity in Coach Hodge’s system is also a plus for the program.

Floyd is the sixth player to join WVU this offseason, joining UNC Wilmington center Harlan Obioha, Chattanooga guard Honor Huff, Troy forward Jackson Fields, North Texas teammate Brenan Lorient, and Allen (TX) 2025 forward DeAndre Thomas.
