MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia guard Amir Jenkins missed the Mountaineers’ appearance in the College Basketball Crown after undergoing surgeries on both shoulders, and head coach Ross Hodge believes he is progressing in his recovery.

During Hodge’s summer media session, he updated the sophomore’s status after undergoing the same surgery on both his left and right shoulders.

“So Amir had surgery on his left shoulder pretty quickly after the season,” he said. “And then once he was able to get range of motion to a certain degree, then he had surgery on his right one, which was like right at the first of July.”

Despite the lengthy rehabilitation process, Hodge believes Jenkins is making steady progress as he works toward returning to the court.

“So he’s recovering from that one, making good progress in both of those,” Hodge said. “Kind of just checking the boxes, range of motion, then you’ve got to get the strength. Then you can get back out there with some non-contact. Then you eventually can make your way back all the way up to full contact with it.”

Jenkins appeared in 32 games during his freshman campaign, averaging 3.4 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. The Worcester, Massachusetts native had 65 assists to 23 turnovers while providing depth in WVU’s backcourt.

Hodge did not provide a timetable for Jenkins’ return to full basketball activities, but he indicated the sophomore continues to progress through each stage of his rehabilitation as the Mountaineers prepare for the 2026-27 season.
