Four-Star Quarterback Set to Visit WVU Football

Rich Rodriguez and the West Virginia football program are in the mix to land a big time recruit in the 2027 class.

Four-star quarterback Justin Murphy is set to officially visit Morgantown the weekend of June 12. The 5-foot-10.5 inch signal caller is also expected to visit fellow Big 12 school, UCF, the following weekend. He also plans to make visits to Rice and Georgia State, so Group of 6 schools are still in the mix.

Murphy completed 89 of 158 passes for 1,532 yards and 11 touchdowns during his Junior season at North Clayton High School. The dual-threat quarterback was also a big factor in the run game. He rushed 137 times for 1,104 yards and 18 touchdowns.

The Atlanta, Georgia native also excels on the track at North Clayton. He finished fourth-place in the Georgia 4A 100-meter race with a time of 10.68 seconds. He’s been clocked as fast as 10.65, which he achieved during his freshman year.

WVU football was late getting into the mix for Murphy, officially extending an offer to him on March 12. That does not seem to be hampering the Mountaineers chances, though. They were able to get him to schedule a visit to Morgantown a week before he heads to Orlando.

Murphy seems to have a really good relationship with the Mountaineer coaching staff, specifically senior offensive assistant Travis Trickett and quarterbacks coach Rhett Rodriguez.

“Those conversations have been good; we have just been checking in with each other,” Murphy said, when speaking of his conversations with the WVU coaches.

In addition to WVU football, Murphy has offers from the aforementioned UCF, Georgia State and Rice; as well as LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Duke, Georgia Tech, Florida State, and several others.
