Linebacker Rick Brown has verbally committed to attend West Virginia University as part of WVU football’s 2027 recruiting class.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder from Harrisburg, Pa. will play his senior season at Susquehanna Township High School. He previously played at Harrisburg High with current WVU offensive lineman, Kevin Brown. He also has connections with some other current Mountaineers.
According to the report from Brian Dohn at 247 Sports, these connections played a factor in Brown choosing WVU.
“The final thing would be that I have friends from home that attend WVU; my former teammate Kevin Brown, a childhood friend, Yendor Mack, and Jaire Rawlinson; who’s also from our area.”
Another factor that influenced his decision to play for WVU was the fact they were one of the first programs to make him an offer, and they stayed in touch. Syracuse was the only power four program to make an offer before West Virginia. However, a change at linebacker coach there aided in WVU’s efforts.
The three-star recruit also likes what he sees in the WVU football coaching staff. “I picked West Virginia because I love what coach Rich Rod is doing with his program,” said Brown to 247 Sports. “Not just on the field but off the field. He’s building good men and good football players.”

Brown chose the Mountaineers over schools like Pitt, Virginia Tech, Minnesota, and several others.
Per 247, he is the 30th best player in the state of Pennsylvania for 2027. They also list him as the number 96 player overall in the class.
