Back on April 10, highly talented linebacker Broncs Baker verbally committed to WVU football as part of the 2027 recruiting class. On June 8 he took his official visit to Morgantown. That visit solidified his decision. According to the prep standout, he is now “1,000 percent locked in” with the Mountaineers.
In addition to WVU, the 247 Sports 3-star recruit had offers from several DI schools, including some from the P4. Those P4 offers included Cal, Arizona State, Michigan, Kansas State, and Virginia Tech.
The 6-foot-1 standout from Tooele, Utah plays with a relentless mindset and a high motor. His game has been compared to another former hard hitting linebacker who played with high energy.

I reached out to Baker recently and he said many coaches have compared his game to former college and NFL great, Brian Cushing.
The Cushing comparison shines a light on why the WVU football staff recruited Baker so hard. He fits the mold of a Zac Alley and Rich Rodriguez player. Not only does he play with high energy and effort, he epitomizes the ‘hard edge’ mentality that Rodriguez preaches. “I am all about hard work,” said Baker. “I was raised to work hard and attack everything I do.”
When I asked the Stansbury High School product why he chose WVU over all of those other schools, he said it was the coaches. “The head man, Coach Alley and Warwick (LB Coach) are all my type of guys,” said Baker. “Coach Rod is all about ‘fist to jaw’ mentality. And Coach Alley and Warwick are mad scientist[s] that attack offenses.”
The coaching staff and on-field fit were huge reasons why Baker chose West Virginia. However, they were not the only reasons. The 215-pound playmaker also feels like Morgantown and the state of West Virginia fit his personality. “The small town feel is similar to my hometown,” he said.
It also doesn’t hurt that he enjoys fishing and the outdoors. He can get plenty of that in the Mountain State.
Baker plans to graduate high school in December and be in Morgantown for Spring Camp.
