Four-Star 2027 Running Back Decommits from WVU Football

By Justin “Couz” Walker | WV Sports Chat

In a significant turn for WVU football’s future recruiting efforts, Rivals reported today that 2027 four-star running back Armand Hill has officially decommitted from the Mountaineers.

Rivals Reveals on X that WPIAL standout Armand Hill has withdrawn his commitment to WVU football

The West Mifflin, PA standout was the foundational piece of the 2027 class. He was the first to pledge his commitment to Coach Rich Rodriguez and former running backs coach Larry Porter back in March 2025. With Hill’s decision to reopen his recruitment, WVU’s 2027 class currently stands with zero active pledges following the earlier departure of linebacker Minikon Johnson in November.

The 5-foot-10 inch running back is one of the most prolific playmakers in the WPIAL. In his first two seasons at West Mifflin Area High School, he has been a human highlight reel, amassing over 3,200 rushing yards and 43 touchdowns.

Hill’s recruitment remains highly competitive, with programs like Penn State, Michigan, Pitt, and Maryland continuing to pursue the elite back.

What’s Next for West Virginia?

While seeing a top-tier talent from nearby Southwest Pennsylvania back away is never ideal, Rich Rodriguez and his staff have plenty of time to replace Hill in the class. The Mountaineers will also be young at the position in 2026, with incoming transfer Cam Cook as the only senior. He will be joined by three true freshmen and a JUCO transfer.
