MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – As first reported by Mike Asti at WV SportsNow, Rich Rodriguez is adding Larry Knight to the coaching staff. The former Central Michigan defensive end is expected to coach the same position at WVU.
Knight will be joining the Mountaineers after a two-year stint at Arkansas State. The Georgia native has also spent time on the staffs at Temple (2017-2018, 2023-2024), Georgia Tech (2019-2022) and Georgia State (2015-2016). He also spent time as a grad assistant at Cincinnati and Tennessee.
Most of Knight’s career has been spent coaching defensive linemen and outside linebackers. He is expected to be working with both positions at WVU, with the focus being defensive ends and edge rushers.
The former All-MAC performer has also spent a lot of time in his coaching career in various recruiting roles. At Georgia Tech, he was defensive recruiting coordinator from 2019-2022. He also served that same role at Temple in 2018 after being promoted prior to the season.
Known for his ability to both recruit and develop talent, Knight has coached multiple All-Conference players in his career. The most notable player to be recruited and coached by Knight is current LA Charger linebacker Kyle Kennard. Knight played a role in recruiting and developing Kennard at Georgia Tech. The 2025 fourth-round draft pick finished his college career at South Carolina in 2024. He finished his senior season by being named a consensus All-American and SEC Defensive Player of the Year. He also won the Bronco Nagurski Award, which goes to the best defensive player in college football.
Per Asti, Knight is already in Morgantown and is an active member of the staff.
