MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Despite the blowout loss to Utah, the West Virginia Mountaineer football program landed three verbal commitments for the 2026 season on Monday. Below is a quick breakdown of each commit.
Wyatt Brown – Quarterback
Wyatt Brown announced his commitment to WVU football via social media on Sunday. The Sherman Oaks, California native chose the Mountaineers over offers from Cal, UCF, and Arkansas; among others. The 6-foot-4 inch lefty is a true dual threat. He plays his high school ball at Notre Dame High School and is the second quarterback taken in the 2026 class by Rich Rodriguez, with the other being Jyron Hughley. Brown is listed as a three-star recruit by 247 Sports and is the 25th commit in the 2026 class.

Carter Kessler – EDGE
Carter Kessler announced his commitment to West Virginia on Monday after taking an official visit for the Utah game. The 6-foot-5 inch pass rusher out of Shelby, Ohio chose the Mountaineers over Memphis. However, several other schools had shown interest. Some of those were: Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Miami (OH), Toledo and several others.
The 240 pound edge rusher is listed as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports. He is the 26th overall commit for Rich Rodriguez and WVU for the 2026 class.

Kamdon Gillespie – EDGE
Rich Rodriguez and the Mountaineers received their second commitment in one day from EDGE rusher, Kamdon Gillespie. The 6-foot-3 inch native of Mooresville, N.C. had originally committed to Virginia Tech. However, the firing of Brent Pry in Blacksburg opened the door for the Mountaineers. In addition to Virginia Tech, the 245-pounder was also offered by Kentucky, East Carolina, Georgia Tech, and several others.
Gillespie is listed as a three-star prospect by all three major recruiting services (Rivals, 247 Sports and ESPN). He is the 27th overall commit for WVU in the 2026 class.
