The former West Virginia quarterback now turned Bucs’ wide receiver Garrett Greene is now doing everything that he can to prove he has what it takes to play receiver in the NFL.
And maybe even if he doesn’t start as a receiver for the Bucs, he may have a shot at playing special teams for the Bucs in the regular season.
Greene had three passes thrown his way in the team’s 17-14 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday night which he caught all three passes totaling for 25 yards. He also capped it off with a punt return for 21 yards.
Now just two games under his belt this preseason, Greene has five catches (no drops) with 47 yards and a total of 38 yards on two punt returns as well.
The final game of the preseason for the Bucs will be on August 23rd against the Buffalo Bills and the expectation is both teams will sit a majority of its starters for that game.
That likely means Greene will see a majority of playing time. And it’s a good thing. If he’s on the cusp of not making the 53-man roster, that game could change everything for Greene and put more pressure on the Bucs coaching staff and front office for him to make the roster.
NFL teams must cut their roster to 53 players by August 26.
