West Virginia Baseball Rises in Latest Rankings

By: RJ Rice

West Virginia baseball is coming off of a series sweep against conference opponent Utah in a three-game series this past weekend. As the Mountaineers improved to 7-3 in Big 12 conference play, they also jumped in multiple rankings from different outlets.

USA Today ranked West Virginia 25th in last week’s poll, but after the Mountaineers won their past four games, they moved up to 23rd.

NCBWA, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, also noticed the Mountaineers’ impressive play over the past week. The NCBWA ranks West Virginia 20th overall, a three-spot increase compared to last week’s rankings.

Perfect Game did not have West Virginia increase or decrease in their rankings compared to last week. The Mountaineers still sit at 11th, the highest of these three polls.

West Virginia will look to improve their ranking again as they have a three-game series against Houston and an in-state battle with Marshall.
