The last meeting was on Dec. 31, 1965 when the Mountaineers topped the Tar Heels 102-97. WVU has won all five meetings in the series.

The series began on Dec. 28, 1949, when the Mountaineers earned a 58-50 victory in Raleigh, North Carolina. WVU followed with a 62-49 win on Jan. 15, 1951.

On Dec. 21, 1957, the Mountaineers upset a top-ranked Tar Heels squad, 75-64, to win the prestigious Kentucky Invitational Tournament in Lexington, Kentucky. That win was WVU’s first victory over an Associated Press No. 1-ranked team in school history.
