St. Louis Cardinals rookie infielder JJ Wetherholt turned a potentially deflating night into a storybook moment.
The 23-year-old Pittsburgh-area native blasted a game-tying solo home run in the top of the ninth inning, sparking a dramatic four-run rally that lifted the Cardinals to a 4-2 victory over the Pirates.
Wetherholt, playing just miles from his hometown of Mars, Pennsylvania (about 18 miles north of PNC Park), sent a 408-foot blast off Pirates reliever Dennis Santana into right field to knot the score at 2-2.
St. Louis added two more runs to complete the comeback, handing the Pirates a tough loss in front of a crowd that included plenty of Wetherholt supporters.
