West Virginia and coach Rich Rodriguez landed a commitment from tight end transfer Grayson Barnes on Saturday morning. The former Northern Illinois Husky hauled in 54 catches for 760 yards during his two years in DeKalb.
In a recent conversation with Locked On West Virginia host, Mountaineer Paul, the latest WVU football commit answered a few questions as to why he chose the Mountaineers. See that conversation below:
MP: Who [what schools] did your recruitment come down to?
GB: West Virginia definitely recruited me hard as soon as they saw I hit the portal. But it mainly came down to WVU; and Illinois was contacting me, along with USC and Arizona.
MP: What made WVU stand out?
GB: WVU was my first and only visit but I love the outdoors and the mountains. So, that was an immediate standout. But, along with the mountains, the staff was super friendly and easy to talk with; not to mention the offense that will feature my skillset.
MP: How about those facilities?GB: Those facilities took me away! The weight room, the training room, the dining room, and the meeting rooms were all amazing. And, the technology the weight room uses easily shows you how much they care about the health of the players and to get them ready to play in the fall.
In summary, it appears that Barnes was really blown away by the coaching staff and how they plan to use him in the offense. He also liked the facilities. The California native was also impressed with the mountains of West Virginia and the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors.
