MORGANTOWN, W.Va.–Spencer Barnett hit two home runs as West Virginia blasted Towson 16-5 on Tuesday afternoon Kendrick Family Ballpark.
The Mountaineers (15-1) scored 16 runs on 10 hits while the Tigers (4-12) had five runs on four hits.
Gavin Kelly had two hits and three RBI. Skylar King and Ben Lumsden each drove in two runs.
WVU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.
In the second inning, Kyle West doubled to left center, extending the lead to 5-0. Nick Karls issued three consecutive walks and a fielding error extended the lead to 7-0.
WVU wasn’t done there. Kelly doubled to right center, scoring Michael Perazza. Then Lumsden’s ground out drove home Kelly and made it a 9-0 contest.
Barnett hit his first home run of the game in the seventh, an opposite-field solo shot, before ending the game with a grand slam in the eighth.
WVU kicks off Big 12 action on Friday against Oklahoma State in Stillwater.
