The West Virginia Mountaineers did in fact have an official visit with Tennessee INF/OF Jay Abernathy prior to the team heading to Omaha for its first ever College World Series appearance.
The first report of a potential visit was from On3’s Pete Nakos who stated that Abernathy would be visiting the Mountaineers.
WV Sports Chat learned from sources and later confirmed it that Abernathy did in fact visit the program.
He also visited with the Oklahoma Sooners and later committed to the Sooners on Thursday.
He played in 56 games for Tennessee last year, splitting time between second base and the outfield and concluded the season with three home runs, nine doubles, a triple, and 16 RBI.
