MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – No. 9 West Virginia had just three hits as the Mountaineers fell to TCU 4-0 on Friday night at Kendrick Family Ballpark.
Matt Ineich, Paul Schoenfeld and Ben Lumsden each had hits for WVU (36-13, 20-9 Big 12).
Maxx Yehl (7-2) pitched 6 2/3 innings, surrendering two runs on four hits while striking out nine. For the Horned Frogs (33-19, 17-12), Lance Davis (5-3) pitched a complete game shutout.
In the second inning, Preston Gamster and Kyuss Gargett each hit solo home runs for TCU. Yehl settled in after the second inning, allowing just one more baserunner the rest of the way.
Dawson Montesa entered in the eighth inning and recorded four strikeouts, but a pair of wild pitches allowed two runners to reach and eventually score as TCU extended its lead to 4-0.
Davis retired the final 10 Mountaineers he faced, needing just 108 pitches to complete the shutout.
The Mountaineers and the Horned Frogs will square off on Saturday for the final game of the regular season. First pitch is set for noon with Senior Day beginning at 11:25 a.m.
