ESPN announced on Wednesday they will air the first ever regular season version of Squeeze Play on Thursday, May 14. They also announced that WVU baseball will be part of that coverage.
Squeeze Play is a popular event among college baseball fans, but in the past has only been aired during the postseason. The broadcast features four-and-a-half-hours of whip-around coverage and includes teams from around the country.
WVU baseball’s series against TCU is part of the coverage, which will appear on both ESPN2 and ESPN+ beginning at 6:00pm Eastern.
Here is what fans can expect, per ESPN:
Throughout the evening, Matt Schick and Mike Rooney will guide fans through the biggest moments from more than 20 live games, featuring live look-ins, key at-bats, home runs, strikeouts, rallies and late-inning drama from around the country. The show will showcase up to six games simultaneously, with coverage featuring 17 ranked teams across the ACC, SEC, Big 12 and American Conference.
Highlighted matchups throughout the night include No. 3 Georgia Tech at No. 23 Boston College, No. 2 North Carolina at NC State, No. 13 Mississippi State at No. 10 Texas A&M, No. 15 Ole Miss at No. 18 Alabama, No. 4 Georgia at No. 5 Auburn, TCU at No. 9 West Virginia and No. 14 Kansas at BYU.
Most of these games have some sort of postseason implications. For example, West Virginia and Kansas are both playing for a chance to win the Big 12 title. Kansas currently leads the Mountaineers by a game, but WVU is coming off a sweep of the Jayhawks. Big 12 Conference Tournament seeding is also at stake for both clubs going into their respective series’ with TCU and BYU.
