After going 4-0 this past week with a win over Marshall and a series sweep over the Kansas Jayhawks on the road, the West Virginia Mountaineers find themselves back in the regional hosting conversations.
On Tuesday, both Baseball America and D1 Baseball has the Mountaineers’ hosting a regional.
Baseball America has WVU coming in as the 16th overall seed with a showcase that represents Ole Miss, Liberty and Binghamton.
Earlier this year WVU won the series against Liberty that also included a 12-0 drumming in game one and a split doubleheader that had WVU walk away as a 2-0 winners, but suffered the game two loss to the Flames by the score of 4-1.
If that projection from Baseball America came to fruition, WVU as the 16th seed would then wait on the winner of the UCLA Regional.
In UCLA’s Regional, they are paired with Miami, Kentucky and San Diego State.
If both WVU and UCLA won its regional, WVU would travel to California for a Super Regional. However, based on the bracketing, if WVU won its regional and UCLA lost its regional, then WVU would likely host a super that would include either Miami, Kentucky or San Diego State.
Again, on Tuesday, DIBaseball released their Field of 64 projections that has West Virginia coming in as the No. 13 seed overall and hosting.
In that regional, West Virginia is matched up with Coastal Carolina, Virginia Tech and Bucknell.
And same with Baseball America’s Field of 64 projections, if DIBaseball’s came to fruition then the Mountaineers — or the other three teams — would await the winner of the Auburn Regional.
Auburn is currently slotted as the four seed and will host UCF, Michigan and North Florida.
If WVU and Auburn win its respective regionals then WVU would travel to Auburn for the Super Regional.
If West Virginia advances out of the regional it would mark the third straight year that the Mountaineers advanced out of the regional stage.
