Maxx Yehl Has Career Outings Against Baylor

By: James Gravley | WV Sports Chat

The West Virginia Mountaineers have yet to lose a series this season and now with a 8-0 win over Baylor Sunday, claim the series and improve to 2-1 in the Big 12 and 13-4 overall.

This in part was with timely hitting but more so of an impressive outing from Maxx Yehl on the bump.

Yehl, who told WV Sports Chat this offseason that the Mountaineers’ were building something special, probably didn’t realize that he would be a key factor in that special build.

Yehl missed the entire 2025 campaign due to Tommy John. He claimed that this seasons rallying call for him personally was “unfinished business”, and I even noted prior to the season if healthy Yehl would be a key factor in the Mountaineers’ rotation.

As noted by WV Sports writer Shanna Rose, Yehl’s historic day comes with great company.

Yehl’s 12 strikeouts were the most strikeouts since Griffin Kirn struck out 14 against Utah last season and the most by a WVU pitcher away from Morgantown since Ryan Bergert struck out 14 against St. Joseph’s in 2020 in Myrtle Beach.

Yehl now on the season has worked 25 complete innings allowing only five runs which two are only earned with 33 strikeouts, which leads the club and 11 walks and now has posted a team-leading 0.72 ERA.

Yehl has proven to the be the ace for WVU this year and if he continues at this rate, he will be the leading factor on the mound as to why and how the Mountaineers make a strong run in the postseason.
