KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jordan Harrison scored 21 points and grabbed six rebounds as No. 2-seeded West Virginia defeated No. 1 TCU, 62-53, to claim the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship on Sunday at the T-Mobile Center.

The Mountaineers outscored the Horned Frogs 26-24 in the paint and grabbed 41 rebounds to TCU’s 34, turning tough defense into easy offense. WVU shot 40 percent from the field and 33 percent from three, while TCU struggled at 33 percent overall and 26 percent from deep.

Sydney Shaw added 17 points, and Kierra “Meme” Wheeler chipped in 10 points and eight boards to help the Mountaineers avenge two regular-season losses to the Horned Frogs. Harrison’s all-around game earned her Big 12 Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors.

“[Jordan Harrison] wreaked havoc on defense,” WVU head coach Mark Kellogg said.

Harrison also had four assists and three steals, constantly turning TCU turnovers into fast-break points.

Olivia Miles led the Horned Frogs with 17 points but spent much of the game in foul trouble. Marta Suarez added 16 points but fouled out in the final minute, leaving TCU short-handed down the stretch.

The Mountaineers’ full-court pressure set the tone early. After a Suarez turnover, Harrison sprinted coast-to-coast for a layup, then Shaw forced another turnover that Taylor Bigby converted into a bucket.

Miles picked up her third foul with 2:54 left in the first half, sparking a 7-0 WVU run into halftime. She quickly drew her fourth foul just 39 seconds into the second half, further limiting the Horned Frog’s offense.

WVU led 56-43 with 1:30 left, but TCU made a late push, scoring seven straight to cut it close. Harrison calmly sank two free throws with 33.4 seconds left to lock it up.

This is the Mountaineers’ second Big 12 Tournament title and first since 2017, giving them an automatic NCAA Tournament bid and likely home-court advantage for the first two rounds.

Harrison and Shaw’s scoring, along with relentless defensive pressure, proved too much for the top-seeded Horned Frogs.

WVU now heads into Selection Sunday riding a wave of momentum into March Madness.
