Just a month after signing a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds, former West Virginia catcher Dayne Leonard has been promoted from the Reds’ Arizona Complex Team to Single-A Daytona.
Leonard played 142 games over three seasons in college, slashing .274/.397/.388 with 34 extra-base hits between his time with Virginia Tech and WVU.
While with the Reds Rookie-Level club, he appeared in 13 games and collected 21 bases with seven RBIs and earning a slash line of .395/.489/.553 and an OPS of 1.042. Leonard also walked six times with eight strikeouts in his 45 plate appearances.
Leonard joins three others to earn their promotion to Daytona including the Reds No. 7 ranked prospect Tyson Lewis.
