Sabins: Four All-Conference Players Headed to Pro Ball

By: James Gravley | WV Sports Chat

On Friday, West Virginia Mountaineers head baseball coach Steve Sabins posted on X that all four All-Americans for the Mountaineers have departed for pro ball.

That list includes Logan Sauve (Athletics) Griffin Kirn (Athletics), Kyle West (Yankees) and undrafted pitcher Jack Kartsonas.

West recently signed with the Yankees while Kartsonas signed an UDFA deal with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Sauve and Kirn have yet to sign with the Athletics, but the expectation is that they both will. Kirn is out of eligibility so turning pro is his only option. Sauve still could opt to return to WVU, but after withdrawing from the MLB Draft last season to boos his stock — which he did — the expectation is he will also sign with the A’s.

The A’s slot pick is set at $304,200, for the selection of Sauve.

To note, Sauve is the first WVU catcher to be selected in the MLB Draft since 2019 when Ivan Gonzalez was selected in the eighth round by the Chicago White Sox.

As for outfielder Skylar King, there hasn’t been much mentioned there, but expect there to potentially be a new center fielder (likely Armani Guzman) leading the charge next season for WVU if in fact King does sign with the Boston Red Sox.

The Red Sox selected King in the 15th round (448th overall) in the MLB Draft.
