On Monday, the West Virginia football program revealed a new throwback uniform that will be rolled out at some point during the 2025 season. The uniform, as seen below, is to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the 1965 Mountaineer team, which won the Southern Conference title.

The uniform reveal received quite a bit of reaction from fans on social media. To better gauge just how Mountaineer fans feel about the uniform, I conducted a 24 hour survey on X (formerly Twitter). The results were overwhelmingly positive. Out of 422 votes, 64% of respondents said they love the uniform combination. Only 6% said they “hate it.” Another 6% said they “don’t care,” while 24% said they are “just ok.”
Now, I assumed Facebook would be quite a different story. As many WVU fans know, the WVU Facebook crowd can be a bit…well, pessimistic. They often see the “glass half empty.” While I did not do an actual survey, I did scroll through and read many of the comments on WVU fan pages about the uniforms. Believe it or not, most of the reactions on Facebook were also positive. Many of the negative reactions revolved around statements like, “Literally looks like we are trying to be Notre Dame.” Or, “UNC vibes.” Overall, though, it seems as though most of Mountaineer Nation is digging the new digs. Pun intended.
