Earlier today former WVU football kicker and current ESPN personality Pat McAfee revealed his next major project on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
McAfee has been under scrutiny lately because of the lucrative contract he has been offered by ESPN. The contract amount is reported to be approximately $60 million annually for the daily coverage of the Pat McAfee Show and his weekly appearances on College GameDay.
The deal is drawing a lot of scrutiny from fans across social media. While ESPN is increasing the amount of McAfee’s contract, they have announced the layoffs of several other popular personalities. Those layoffs included but were not limited to; Ryan Clark, Cam Newton and longtime baseball commentator Karl Ravech.
The Pat McAfee Show host is not a stranger to backlash and being the target of scrutiny. As a matter of fact, he’s been writing songs about it for the past twenty years. That’s according to a recent post on his X account.
Along with the announcement that he’s been writing songs about people hating him for two decades, he also revealed a date when fans can expect at least some of those songs to be released. The former NFL punter will apparently be dropping an album on August 14th titled, “The Diary of a Polarizing Figure.” The multi-talented superstar has released one song to-date. The single “Dookie” was released on streaming platforms back on December 5, 2025.
McAfee graduated from West Virginia as the football program’s leading scorer with 384 points all-time. That record still stands today.
He also spent eight years as a punter in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts after being selected in the 7th round of the 2008 NFL Draft.
Of course, McAfee has become even more well known since he retired from the game. He started The Pat McAfee Show on YouTube in 2017. The show grew in popularity to the point that ESPN eventually wanted it on their networks.
In addition to his own show and being a Co-Host on GameDay; the Plum, Pennsylvania native has been a WWE commentator, an in-ring superstar with WWE, and has done live stage shows. He’s also reportedly venturing into acting with upcoming appearances in the series Tulsa King starring Sylvester Stallone. Now, McAfee will be able to add recording artist to his list of accomplishments.
