Morgantown, WV – Earlier this week, the WVU Football program announced that Pat White’s number 5 will officially be retired on September 5th as the Mountaineers take on Coastal Carolina. This prompted fans to plead with the university to set the game as a “White Out” in honor of arguably the most decorated player in the program’s history.
It didn’t take long for WVU athletics director Wren Baker to deliver.
According to a social media post by WVU Football, the season opener against the Chanticleers will officially be a White Out.
WVU last held a White Out for Pat White’s senior day on December 6, 2008 against South Florida. The Mountaineers won the game 13-7.
WVU and Coastal Carolina kick off the 2026 season on September 5th at noon. The game is set to broadcast on TNT.
