On Saturday, June 19, the West Virginia Mountaineers received a portal commitment from William & Mary outfielder Chase Ecker.
Ecker confirmed the commitment to WV Sports Chat on Saturday, but asked for it to not be made public until he officially let other programs know of his decision and for his public announcement of his commitment.
As a freshman for the Tribe’ he played in 50 games with 48 starts, all in center field.
He totaled for 29 runs, 43 hits, five doubles, 18 RBI and stole 27 bases out of 27 attempts which tied for fourth-most in single-season program history, top-50 in Division I, and tied second among all freshmen nationally.
He finished his season at William & Mary with a .244 batting average.
“I committed to WVU because coach Sabins and the rest of the staff/coaches seemed to really value me as a player and what I could bring to the field everyday,” Ecker said. “The resources and development that WVU has to offer is unbelievable and will allow me to get better everyday.”
Ecker told WV Sports Chat that he was choosing between WVU and Boston College, but other programs were also recruiting him that included Rutgers and Wake Forest among others.
