5 Players Who Could Develop Into STARS For WVU Football

Morgantown, WV – On April 18th, Mountaineer Nation got their first look at the 2026 edition of WVU Football. With the plethora of new additions to the program, fans spent the entire event learning the names and numbers of the young men that will suit up in the Old Gold and Blue this fall.

Today, we are going to take a look at FIVE newcomers that have the potential to develop into stars – whether it be this fall or in the future.

Without further ado:

  • Prince Strachan – WR (R. Jr.): Rich Rodriguez and staff made it a point to secure talent at the receiver position in the 2026 recruiting and transfer portal classes. USC transfer Prince Strachan comes to Morgantown with tremendous upside. Though he has put up only modest stats throughout his career, his size and skill set make him an intriguing player to watch this fall.
  • Jyron Hughley – QB (Fr.): I’m usually not the kind of fan to put too much stock into the spring game – but what Jyron Hughley was able to do last month was special. On his first carry of the Gold-Blue Spring Festival, the Florida native was able to house-it on a 60-yard touchdown run. If he can continue to develop as a passer, Hughley could push for playing time sooner rather than later.
  • Amari Latimer – RB (Fr.): Former four-star running back Amari Latimer needs no introduction to Mountaineer Nation. The talented Georgia native brings size to the West Virginia backfield. Expect him to be in the running back rotation out of the gates for the Mountaineers.
  • Matt Sieg – S (Fr.): Another member of the 2026 recruiting class that needs no introduction, safety Matt Sieg is easily the biggest pull for Rich Rodriguez to this point. If reports from spring practice are accurate, the Pennsylvania native will be a featured player in the Mountaineer secondary from the word “go.”
  • Tobi Haastrup – EDGE (R-Fr.): Ever since Tobi Haastrup transferred to WVU from Oregon, he has easily been my most anticipated newcomer of 2026. Despite seeing limited action, the skill set that Haastrup possesses is enough to have any fan on the edge of their seat. If he can find his footing in Zac Alley’s defense, watch out – we might just be chanting Tobi’s name from the stands before it’s all said and done.
