WVU’s Chansen Cole Strikes Out Season Best Nine Batters

By: James Gravley | WV Sports Chat

Chansen Cole went the distance on Friday night against Kansas State.

That wasn’t the historical moment for the DII pitching transfer this season. He’s always worked his magic on the mound this year, but on Friday, he was on a different level.

Cole, who pitched a complete game, only allowed one run on five hits from the Wildcats batters.

Cole went on to strike out nine hitters, his season best since transferring to the Mountaineers. The closest he’s gotten to nine strikeouts this season was back in February against Liberty where he worked 5.1 innings and struck out seven batters along the way.

Last year with Newberry College, Cole recorded 15 strikeouts and 11 strikeouts in back-to-back games and in both of those games he worked just six complete innings.

Cole is now 8-1 on the year with a 2.64 ERA. He’s worked 64.2 innings with 63 strikeouts and 25 walks.

His next outing will be against Kansas next weekend.
