WVU Women’s Basketball Signs Elite Scorer Zahirah Walton

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Mark Kellogg and the WVU women’s basketball program landed a signature from transfer guard/forward Zahirah “ZaZa” Walton.

The 6-foot transfer is coming to West Virginia after spending the past four seasons at George Mason. She missed her freshmen season due to injury so comes to Morgantown as a redshirt senior.

During her career with the Patriots, she was an elite scorer. She averaged 14.8 points per game for her career. He scoring average increased each season. She finished her redshirt junior year averaging 18.1 points per game on nearly 41% shooting from the floor.

The three time All Atlantic10 Conference performer also excels on the defensive end of the floor. She averaged 1.7 steals per game during her three seasons playing for George Mason. She was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team in 2025.

From the announcement at the WVU Sports website, West Virginia women’s coach Mark Kellogg said the following about Walton:

“We are thrilled to welcome Zahirah “ZaZa” Walton to our program. Zahirah is a dynamic guard who brings toughness, versatility, and a competitive edge to our program,” Kellogg said. “She has demonstrated the ability to produce at a high level on both ends of the court, and we believe her skill set will translate seamlessly into the physicality and pace of the Big 12. Beyond her talent, she is a tremendous fit for our culture and the way we play. We are looking forward to what she’ll bring to our team and our fans.”

A native of Seattle, Washington, Walton attended and played prep basketball at Kentlake High School.

Due to her redshirting her first season with the Patriots, Walton will have one year of eligibility remaining.
