WVU Football Adds Former SEC Commit to Secondary

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University football snagged a verbal commitment from junior college standout Da’Mare Williams on Monday. The safety from Coffeyville Community College in Kansas picked the Mountaineers over several other Power Four suitors, bolstering WVU’s 2026 class—now up to 34 hard commits and climbing.

The Sylva, North Carolina native out of Smokey Mountain High School brings size and athleticism to the secondary. He stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 205 pounds. During his freshman season at Coffeyville, the three-star recruit racked up 39 tackles and two interceptions—one returned for a touchdown—showcasing his ball skills.

Rated a three-star recruit (86 composite on 247 Sports), Williams ranks as the No. 40 overall JUCO player in the 2026 class, No. 6 safety nationally, and No. 9 in North Carolina.

Williams flipped to WVU after a brief commitment to Kentucky—where he chose the Wildcats over offers from Mississippi State, Houston, UCF, and Charlotte.
