The St. Louis Cardinals have announced the infielder JJ Wetherholt has been named the organizations Minor League Player of the Year.
The honor was a fitting capstone to a campaign that saw him dominate at both Double-A and Triple-A levels.
The first half of Wetherholt’s season in Springfield was nothing short of spectacular. As the anchor of the Texas League-champion Cardinals affiliate, he hit .300 with seven home runs, 34 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases over 62 games, earning him the league’s MVP honors
Promoted to Triple-A Memphis in mid-July, he wasted no time acclimating to his promotion.
Over 47 games with the Redbirds, he elevated his game further, batting .314 with 10 home runs and 25 RBIs—numbers that screamed “major league ready.”
