Chase Meyer is back with West Virginia this season. He’s also got a chance at becoming an early MLB Draft pick next summer.
Meyer does have a big-league arm. That’s evident with his fastball flirting with almost 100. His offspeed pitches pair well with his fastball and his slot delivery always has hitters guessing.
Meyer went 9-2 with a 3.94 ERA last season and struck out 68 batters while walking 38 over 48 innings of work.
The question about Meyer isn’t if he will put up good numbers and have a good outing or not. It is what will his command look like throughout the duration of his time on the mound? That has been the looming question mark for him in his collegiate career. And scouts seem to have that worry as well.
One scout told WV Sports Chat that if Meyer can seem to get his command under control in 2026 then he could surpass himself inside the top first three rounds of the MLB Draft next summer.
Another scout told WV Sports Chat that if Meyer produced numbers Ike he did in 2025 in 2026, then he would be selected “very early” in the MLB Draft. That same scout said they would not be surprised if Meyer started his professional career next summer.
If Meyer can get his control under control this upcoming season, then it should not come as a surprise if he hears his name called inside the first three rounds of the MLB Draft.
