It was a great night to be a Mountaineer.
Following West Virginia’s dramatic overtime win against Pitt in the 108th Backyard Brawl, WVU athletic director Wren Baker couldn’t resist a lighthearted dig at the Panthers.
The Mountaineers’ 31-24 victory, sealed by running back Tye Edwards’ game-winning touchdown, not only reignited celebrations across Morgantown but also prompted Baker to tweet a cheeky reminder of the upcoming break in the series.
“Going to need our friends in Oakland to hold this for us until 2029,” Baker posted, sharing a picture of an “L” being handed over describing Pitt’s loss.
A win in the Backyard Brawl is always a big deal for Mountaineer nation, but the series will now take a break until the rivalry renews in 2029, leaving Pitt holding the loss a tad bit longer.
Yes it is! Going to need our friends in Oakland to hold this for us until 2029! #BackyardBrawl #HailWV https://t.co/cAslrdd9gJ pic.twitter.com/QFrfHXwnfU
