As West Virginia prepares for their highly anticipated Backyard Brawl against Pitt this Saturday, the team released an updated depth chart.
Tye Edwards’ Mysterious Omission
One of the most striking revelations from the depth chart is the absence of Tye Edwards, a senior running back who transferred from Northern Iowa and was expected to bolster WVU’s ground game.
Edwards brought impressive credentials to Morgantown, including 1,022 rushing yards and six touchdowns during his senior season with the Panthers. His physicality and 6.4 yards-per-carry average had positioned him as a potential breakout star under new head coach Rich Rodriguez, known for his run-heavy offensive schemes.
However, Edwards’ name is conspicuously missing from the running back lineup, which lists Clay Ash, Cyncir Bowers and Diore Hubbard. With Jahiem White being ruled out for the remainder of the season, many believed Edwards would begin to get additional time. Surprisingly, Hubbard, who hasn’t played a single snap this season, is listed ahead of the NIU transfer.
Quarterback Conundrum Persists
The quarterback position remains a focal point of uncertainty, with the depth chart listing multiple candidates under an “or” designation.
Those listed have remained unchanged, despite Nicco Marchiol starting both games this season.
This quarterback carousel comes at a critical juncture, with WVU sitting at 1-1 against the spread after a convincing win over Robert Morris and a disappointing loss at Ohio.
