WVU Football Depth Chart Unveiled for Week 2 Showdown Against Ohio

By: Jonathan K. Martin | WV Sports Chat

West Virginia has released their depth chart for their week two road matchup against Ohio, and while much of the roster remained unchanged, a surprising twist at the quarterback position has sparked intrigue.

Despite Nicco Marchiol’s standout performance in the season opener against Robert Morris, the depth chart continues to list five quarterbacks—Marchiol, Jaylen Henderson, Max Brown, Scotty Fox Jr., and Khalil Wilkins—with an “OR” designation.

In week one, Nicco Marchiol took the field as the starting quarterback against Robert Morris, a decision confirmed just hours before kickoff. The redshirt junior did not disappoint, throwing for 224 passing yards and a touchdown without throwing an interception.

So, when the week two depth chart dropped, fans expected Marchiol to be listed as the definitive starter, especially given his success last weekend in the season opener and Rodriguez’s comments about his consistency. Instead, the quarterback position remains a five-man race, at least according to the depth chart.

Rodriguez himself has been vocal about his philosophy of using multiple quarterbacks, emphasizing that the “OR” designations reflect genuine competition rather than a strategic ploy.

It’s believed Marchiol will remain the starter for the Mountaineers but expect Rich Rodriguez to get others – especially Jaylen Henderson and Scotty Fox Jr. – more action.
