MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU men’s basketball is back on the recruiting trail this week, and they have their eyes set on 2027 four-star Micah Gordon.
The 6-foot point guard averaged 17 points,5.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and three steals per game last season for Plainfield High School in New Jersey. The junior has been a lights out scorer for the Cardinals the past two seasons. His career highlight, so far, was a 30-point triple-double he had against Linden High School his sophomore season.
West Virginia joined in the sweepstakes for the versatile scoring threat back on July 20th. Other schools showing interest are Mississippi State, Arizona State, Marquette, and Seton Hall. Despite his smaller stature, Gordon has the ability to score from inside the three-point line, nailing 144 two-point attempts last season, alongside 48 three-pointers.
His visit has been scheduled for September 12th, which could play out as a very high risk-high reward visit. Gordon confirmed with WVSportsChat.com that he plans on attending the Backyard Brawl with some of the coaching staff.
Plainfield High, led by Gordon, accomplished a feat no other public school in New Jersey has been able to achieve. They became the first public school to win a state title since 2000. The Cardinals dominated their way through the state tournaments, with only one of the six games coming within 10 points. Gordon took home MVP of the tournament after a 24-point performance, paired with two rebounds, and three assists.
The 2027 four-star has just one other visit scheduled so far, that being VCU on August 29th. However, if all things go right, WVU has the perfect oppurtunity to make him a Mountaineer.
