Rich Rodriguez Takes on Big 12 Media Days

By: RJ Rice | WV Sports Chat

Rich Rodriguez had a busy day in Frisco, Texas, as the Big 12 conference had its football media days earlier yesterday afternoon.

When asked about his thoughts on his career from 20 years ago to now, Rich gave a straightforward answer to the media.

“I’m a smarter and better coach than I was a week ago, let alone 20 years ago, and if I’m not, then I’m not doing my program or my players or my coaches any service…” Rodriguez said.

To people who have had doubts about Rich Rodriguez’s commitment due to his past, particularly his move to Michigan late in 2007, this should provide some closure on the type of energy and culture shift he is trying to bring back to West Virginia.

Something that many fans noticed was the words Rich Rodriguez said about the quarterback battle before his press conference even started on the ESPN set.

“If we got two I think we can win with, I’ll play them both. If we have three, I’ll play all three of them,” Rodriguez stated.

This raises a lot of eyebrows, as he could potentially play all three quarterbacks: Nicco Marchiol, a redshirt-junior who is 3-0 as a starter; Jaylen Henderson, a redshirt-senior who transferred in from Texas A&M; and Max Brown, a redshirt-junior who transferred in from Charlotte.

With Rodriguez’s comments, don’t be shocked if you see him play all three guys in different parts of a game, as live-in-game reps could be the deciding factor when it comes to answering West Virginia’s quarterback question mark.

In the video below, WV Sports Chat’s own, Justin Walker, talks about the WVU quarterback situation and Coach Rodriguez’s comments.

Overall, Rich Rodriguez looked impressive when speaking to the media, and his words have Mountaineer fans hyped up for the upcoming football season.
