No. 4-seeded Arizona Bounces top-seeded WVU in Big 12 Semifinal

ARLINGTON, Texas- West Virginia’s offense stalled on Friday night as the No. 1-seeded Mountaineers fell to fourth-seeded Arizona 12-1 in the Big 12 semifinals at Globe Life Field.

Logan Sauve, Armani Guzman, and Sam White each had two hits for WVU (41-14) and Chase Swain drove in the lone run.

Mason White went 4-for-4 and drove in six runs for the Wildcats (38-18).

Jack Kartsonas took the mound for the Mountaineers and pitched 4.0 innings, surrendering five runs and striking out six.

Raul Garayzar pitched six scoreless innings and earned the win. He gave up six hits and struck out three.

The Wildcats took the lead with a run in the first and added another in the third before breaking the game open in the fifth. White blasted a three-run home run over the right center wall. It was his second of the night.

In the sixth, Arizona added two more runs before scoring three in the seventh and two in the ninth.

WVU got on the board in the bottom of the seventh when Swain singled through the right side, scoring Guzman.

The loss eliminates the Mountaineers, who will return to Morgantown and focus their attention on the NCAA Regionals. The selection show will air on Monday, May 26 at 12 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Arizona advances to the championship to take on the winner of No. 2-seeded Kansas and third-seeded TCU.
