MORGANTOWN, W.Va.–Kansas defeated No. 16 West Virginia 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at Kendrick Family Ballpark.
Jack Kartsonas suffered the loss for the Mountaineers (40-13, 19-9 Big 12). He pitched seven innings, giving up one run on five hits while striking out eight.
Kyle West and Logan Sauve had the only two hits for WVU.
Brady Ballinger led the Jayhawks (41-14, 19-10) with three hits.
With one out, Sauve doubled in the second but the next two batters went down on strikes.
In the sixth, Kartsonas gave up a leadoff double to Ballinger before retiring the next two batters. Daniel Osoria’s base hit gave Kansas a 1-0 lead.
Derek Cerda hit a three-run home run off reliever Carson Estridge in the eighth inning to give the Jayhawks a 4-0 lead.
Kansas tacked on three more runs in the ninth.
The Mountaineers received a bye in the first round of the Big 12 Championship and will play on Thursday.
