West Virginia Picks Up Elite Shooter from Transfer Portal
By Brandon Walker
MORGANTOWN, W.Va,–West Virginia University head coach Ross Hodge is already making big-time roster moves. He landed one of the best shooters in the transfer portal on Saturday in Chattanooga guard Honor Huff.
Huff, 5-foot-10, 168 pounds, garnered serious interest from schools such as Iowa, Pitt, St. Johns, and Vanderbilt, but ultimately he selected the Mountaineers.
The Pennsburg, Pennsylvania product led the nation with 131 three-pointers on 41.6 percent shooting. He averaged 15.2 points, 2.3 assists, and 1.8 rebounds for Chattanooga this past season and he helped the Mocs win the NIT Tournament.
Huff started his college career at VMI in 2021, where he started 18 games and averaged 10 points per game. Then he transferred to Chattanooga and after sitting out the 2022-23 season, he averaged 17.1 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game while shooting 38 percent from behind the arc.
Huff has proven that he can catch and shoot, spot up, create his shot, and get to the rim if needed. He is also an effective passer and playmaker, which WVU needs in its offense this upcoming season.
Huff is the third player that the Mountaineers have picked up from the transfer portal this offseason, joining center Harlan Obioha from UNC-Wilmington and power forward Brenan Lorient from North Texas.
