White Helps WVU Power Past Arizona

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.–Sam White had three hits and drove in five runs as West Virginia pounded Arizona 11-3 on Saturday afternoon at Kendrick Family Ballpark.

Reese Bassinger (2-0) picked up the win for the Mountaineers (19-2, 2-1 Big 12). He pitched 5.1 innings and allowed no runs on one hit while striking out eight.

Kyle West, Jace Rinehart and Skylar King all had two hits and one RBI.

Owen Kramkowski (3-2) suffered the loss for the Wildcats (17-5, 4-1). He surrendered six earned runs on eight hits.

Arizona jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring one run in each of the first two innings.

In the bottom of the third, WVU tied the game at 2-2 when White doubled home two runs.

Tommy Splaine’s solo home run in the fourth put the Wildcats back on top.

However, the Mountaineers broke the game open in the bottom half of the inning with a seven-run inning. Rinehart led off the inning with a solo home run. Then a pair of base hits and a walk loaded the bases for Brodie Kresser, who drove in two runs with a single up the middle.

With the bases loaded White blasted a double into right center and cleared the bases. West followed with a double that plated White and gave the Mountaineers a 9-3 advantage.

WVU added two more runs in the seventh.

The two teams will square off in the rubber match on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. (ET).
