Maxx Yehl gets the ball to try and clinch WVU’s spot in Omaha

West Virginia has the luxury of having two pitchers on its roster that can be considered aces. On Friday, Chansen Cole went seven strong innings while allowing just two runs on eight hits while striking out a season-high 11 batters.

Cole also earned his 10th win of the season as WVU took game one of three in a three game series against Cal Poly with a 12-2 win.

On Saturday, in game two of the three game Steven Sabins will trot out Big 12 Pitcher of the Year in Maxx Yehl.

Yehl in his last outing against Kentucky went five strong innings where he allowed just one run on three hits while fanning six wildcats hitters along the way.

Yehl will likely be the catalyst to help punch the Mountaineers’ ticket to Omaha on Saturday. If he has a strong outing on Saturday, then the Mountaineers will be headed to Omaha.
