As the 2026 college baseball regular season enters its final stretch, West Virginia University has two standout performers earning national acclaim.

On Tuesday, Baseball America named catcher Gavin Kelly and redshirt junior pitcher Maxx Yehl to its Week 13 College Team of the Week, spotlighting their dominant contributions in the Mountaineers’ impressive road sweep of then-No. 9 Kansas.

The honor highlights WVU’s surging momentum in the Big 12 Conference. The Mountaineers (now 35-12 overall and 19-8 in league play following the series) pulled within striking distance of the top of the standings and boosted their NCAA Tournament resume with one of the biggest road series victories in program history.

Here is what Baseball America had to say about both players.

C: Gavin Kelly, West Virginia

Kelly continued to cement himself as a premium prospect in the 2027 draft class, going 7-for-17 with four home runs, six runs scored and five RBIs in West Virginia’s road sweep of then-No. 9 Kansas.

P: Maxx Yehl, West Virginia

Yehl posted one of the most significant pitching performances of the season on Friday night against Kansas in Lawrence, allowing one run on six hits while striking out nine to two walks in a complete game. He lowered his ERA to 2.04 with 79 strikeouts to 19 walks over 66.1 innings on the year and has generated significant draft interest as a result.
