West Virginia football continued its strong momentum in the 2027 recruiting cycle on Monday, securing a commitment from four-star defensive back Carter Bonner out of Baltimore’s prestigious St. Frances Academy.
The 6-foot-2, 190- to 195-pound Bonner announced his decision via social media, choosing the Mountaineers over a competitive final list that included Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Oregon State. He also held offers from programs such as Penn State, Michigan State, Pitt, Kentucky, Rutgers, Northwestern, and others.
Bonner becomes the eighth commitment in WVU’s 2027 class and the first at the defensive back position. Rated as high as the No. 18 athlete nationally – 90 overall grade per 247Sports – and a top-10 player in Maryland, he is currently the highest-rated prospect in the class and has helped move the Mountaineers up in the team rankings.
