The 2026 MLB Draft is right around the corner and the West Virginia Mountaineers may have another pitcher selected in the draft.
This time it could potentially be lefty Maxx Yehl.
Yehl, who missed all of the 2025 campaign due to Tommy John surgery, made his comeback this year and noted to WV Sports Chat in the offseason that this was year meant unfinished business and the Mountaineers were building something special headed into the 2026 season.
Now Yehl sees his name driving up the big boards in the upcoming MLB Draft.
Perfect Game now has Yehl ranked at 168 overall as the best of 300 top prospects to be selected in the upcoming draft.
If Yehl were to get drafted and to be selected at the 168 spot then that would mean he would likely go in the sixth round of the draft. If that comes to fruition then Yehl would be drafted by the Cleveland Guardians who currently hold pick 168.
On the year Yehl has worked 52.1 innings allowing just 17 runs on 45 hits and has recorded 62 strikeouts, a team high and has just allowed 15 walks along the way.
Yehl is 5-1 with a 2.41 ERA on the year.
