He’s only a freshman. He has four saves. His name is David Perez. And if you get the chance to watch him pitch you will see that he is oozing with an abundance of confidence; and rightfully so.
Perez has only pitched in eight and two thirds innings this year, but has 15 strikeouts and zero walks allowed and has worked an impressive ERA sitting at 1.05 which is sitting third in the Big 12.
The most impressive part about the Perez story is that his four saves is tied at the top within the Big 12 sitting there with Oklahoma State’s sophomore Noah Wech.
Perez has recorded three strikeouts in one game this season twice — against Liberty and Baylor — both resulting in wins for the Mountaineers.
Perez’s go to pitch has been the slider to get strikeouts which has been thrown over 88% this season.
