The West Virginia women’s basketball team has ascended to No. 17 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll. This marks a two-spot jump from their previous ranking of No. 19.
The catalyst for this rise was their commanding 72-40 victory over Oklahoma State this past Saturday at the Hope Coliseum in Morgantown.
The Mountaineers showcased a stifling defense, holding the Cowgirls to just 40 points while forcing numerous turnovers. Junior guard Gia Cooke led the charge with 21 points, including five, three-pointers. Forward Kierra Wheeler contributed a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, anchoring the team’s interior presence.
This win improved WVU’s record to 22-6 overall, and 12-4 in the Big 12 Conference.
