Dawson Montesa as Good as Advertised

By: James Gravley | WV Sports Chat

Yep. He’s good.

There’s no question about it.

DII pitching transfer Dawson Montesa made his debut for the West Virginia Mountaineers in game two of the doubleheader and did not disappoint.

Montesa made easy work of the Georgia Southern Eagles striking out the side in the first inning.

In the second inning Montesa showed some rust giving up two runs but got out of trouble by finishing the inning with a strikeout.

He struck out one in the third and finished two more strikeouts in the fourth frame.

Montesa worked six successful innings allowing two runs on six hits while not allowing a single walk and striking out seven along the way on 98 pitches thrown. Montesa earned the win and finished with a 3.00 ERA.

Montesa will likely earn the start for next Sunday’s series finale against the Liberty Flames.

Here are the probable start times for the three-game series against Liberty.
